Inside Mount
For an integrated feel, or to preserve the appearance of decorative window trims and moldings, mount your shades inside the window frame.
The shade must be able to move up and down freely without obstruction (such as by window cranks).
Please note: There will be a small gap of light on each side of the window that isn’t covered, due to the difference in width of the headrail vs. the fabric/slats:
- Roller: 3/4” light gap on each side
- Honeycomb: 1/4" light gap on each side
- Wood Blinds: 1/4" light gap on each side
For all inside mounted shades, we deduct a small amount from your entered width to allow room for proper installation and operation (this is accounted for in the light gaps above):
- Roller: 1/16” deducted per side
- Honeycomb: 1/8” deducted per side
- Wood Blinds: 1/4” deducted per side

Outside Mount - On Trim
For shallow windows, or if you want more coverage to darken a room, mount shades or wood blinds on the window trim.
For windows without trim or molding, shades or wood blinds can be mounted on the wall above the window frame.

Outside Mount - Above Trim
For added drama and to make your windows appear taller, mount shades or wood blinds above the window trim.
To ensure the shade clears the top trim, Lutron provides spacers with this mount style:
- Roller: 1/2" deep spacers included
- Honeycomb: 1/2" deep spacers included
- Wood Blinds: 3/8” deep spacers included
